The Android smartphone market is in a curious state right now. We have so many companies that are vying for the same users, who want the latest phone with the best specs. We have Samsung that has a clear gap in the high end market, as it sells a lot more phones than LG and other brands. Then we have Chinese manufacturers such as Xiaomi, who are cornering the budget and mid-range market.

It is interesting to see how OnePlus fits into all this. It is a manufacturer that started out as a flagship killer. The idea was that you could get a OnePlus phone for a third or fourth of what you spent on a flagship Android, but you would still get a very good experience.

And it has rang true since the company began producing phones. But in the OnePlus 6, they have a phone that is only a couple hundred dollars cheaper than flagships. And in some countries, it is the same price as the Galaxy S9. Now it is in flagship territory itself. How does it stack up?

Hardware:

If you were to buy the OnePlus 6, you are getting the latest Snapdragon 845 processor. So if you are someone who plays demanding games or runs intense apps, you will have no issues with this phone. It will go through everything without an issue.

You are also getting 6 or 8 GB of RAM, depending on the model that you buy. Again, it is top of the line stuff that will ensure all your apps stay open, without any issues.

The only area where the OnePlus 6 lags behind flagships is the camera. The specs on the camera are very good, but the picture quality at night is worse than what you get with a Google Pixel 2 or Samsung Galaxy S9.

Software:

The OnePlus 6 shines with software, as the Oxygen OS from the company is a very light skin on top of stock Android. It is very fast, smooth and will deliver excellent battery life. All in all, it is a great phone!
